Coastal Carriage

Our Coastal Carriage offers a fun and romantic alternative to a hotel or guesthouse.

Packed full of character and charm, the Coastal Carriage is perfect for a private, relaxing retreat in the unspoilt Aberdeenshire countryside. And what it lacks in utilities, it more than makes up for in comforts and views.

Perched proudly on top of a hill with panoramic views across the Moray Firth, you won’t find a better spot to explore the tucked away treasures of the Banffshire Coast. Quintessential fishing villages and miles of beaches are just a stone’s throw away. It’s time to dig your toes in the sand and leave the weekly grind behind.

Feed the crackling stove with logs from the basket, fall into a sumptuous double bed by flickering candle light after a day spent roaming. Board games, a dram, a good book or maybe even a song by the stove – take time to enjoy the simple things in life with a stay in the Coastal Carriage.

Extreme weather

Due to its exposed spot, the Coastal Carriage can experience significant winds and chilly temperatures. It’s very cosy inside but please bring warm clothes for getting out and about.

Cooking Facilities

The wood burning stove is great for keeping you toasty, and for cooking on too. The hot plate is easy to manage and our well-equipped cupboards provide all you need to prepare your meals comfortably. If you’re in a hurry to head out for the day or don’t feel like lighting the fire, we have a single ring gas stove so you can make a quick breakfast or cup of tea and be on your way.

Shower and Toilet

For a small space, you’ll be surprised at the large shower room inside the carriage. Here you can enjoy an authentic bush shower filled with water from the stove or the gas ring. Pull over the shower curtain to protect your modesty or leave it be and enjoy the view!

Our composting toilet is cleverly hidden in the centre of a cable reel. It provides everything you need for a user-friendly visit. Being al fresco, a trip to this loo makes for a refreshing start to the day – and for particularly wild nights, there’s a sweet vintage night potty on hand!

Water and Electricity

The tap water is from our very own spring. It’s perfect for cooking with, but you may prefer to bring your own water to drink. As you’re in your own private field, there’s no electricity. Going without telly, WiFi and a mobile is one thing, but we believe going completely off-grid as well adds a certain joyful thrill of disconnectedness to your holiday. (Don’t worry, if the lack of WiFi really is too much for you, we will happily charge your phone for you!)

There’s a selection of lanterns and candles for lighting, and although there’s no fridge, we provide a cool box and fresh ice packs every day.

Entertainment

We never tire of the fabulous view, spotting dolphins on a clear day, or counting the Sutherland hills on the other side of the water. If you do fancy a different kind of entertainment though, we supply a basket full of board games, dominoes, playing cards and magazines.
